Hello Beautiful Souls,
How are you? Where are you? Who are you?
Who would have thought that asking such simple questions could bring up so much? In just eleven months, our beautiful world has undergone significant changes. Have you, too? In this breath, if you are reading this, if you’ve made it to this fifth question, it would be reasonable to expect you are better than some. Sheltered? Have the power to read these words on a device or computer? Yes. I’m grateful for your eyes, even for a moment of “just us.” As we connect, I’m going to tuck others into my heart for prayers that, if not now, they soon will also feel safe, sheltered, and loved as they are. Where two or more pray…
It wasn’t just the state of the world that had me leave our home last week. It was a dear friend reaching out to come dance. As I drove across the snaking river toward the airport, tears splashed down my face. My sweet daughter took my hand. She knows I love to travel. I love to love this world. I love to explore with friends and family, dance, and share, but this trip felt different. Did I really need to worry about what I’ve been posting in support of democracy and human rights? I was unusually unsettled. I’ve been packing my passport for years for domestic flights “just in case.”
Though I’d barely slept, I was two hours early. There were no lines. Reading my dark circles, the TSA agents were exceptionally kind. To say it felt a bit like jumping in with the Humpback Whales for the first time, really wasn’t an exaggeration. It wasn’t until I breathed in the blue skies that I could relax.
I refocused. I was slipping away from computers and the internet to tap into the Source of this gift of the Dancing Hands and the grounding power of the red rock vortexes. I’d come many times to Sedona before – first to wean my son, Kai, after my wasband and I did a ceremony in Boynton Canyon, then for work. I’d brought Braco here to gaze and met the wondrous musician and vocalist Ashana. Later, I brought Mas Sajady and Abdy each to do their work and finally danced here with our own Jane’s Dancing Hands Circles, too, all with the marvelous kindness of Monnie and Natesh’s help. I’d even seen a UFO fly over the highway as my old friend was driving me back to Phoenix in broad daylight! I love Sedona. Every experience has been magical. Fear vanished.
Elissa Shapiro, our dear friend and longtime facilitator of her own Body Vida soul dance practice and the Dancing Hands events in Texas, had just returned from Sedona and asked if I’d like to join her right away. “We might have three people. We might invite a few more. Think you can come?” There was no advertising, nor need to put it on our websites. We each asked a few people in our ongoing classes or circles, and the retreat immediately sold out with the most wonderful group of dear, loving, and game-for-the-adventure women.
Elissa found an incredible home to rent on the ley line of Bell Rock, one of many vortexes in the area, which has long been considered sacred by indigenous peoples, such as the Yavapai and Apache, who used it for ritual or ceremonies. We rose with the sun, and even though my inner GPS was spun, we made it to the red rocks and trails to BE with all of the glorious beauty and listen. We stepped through portals, scrambled up the rocks to explore, had silent disco, and not-so-silent circles, (oh, those oli’s have a hard time not turning the volume all the way up!), and we each reawakened the treasure trove of gifts that dancing with intentional women always brings, but times seven because we were in the amplification of this magnetic place.
To gather with intuitive women, compassionate women, healing-hearted women, and all committed to a greater community of kinder, more open-minded healers and helpers was just the balm and boon we all seem to need.
There is nothing like unplugging from the un-reality of this strange world and plugging into what brings us together to help me better help others. And I wasn’t alone. Beside the fire, we danced our prayers for ourselves and the world. Under the stars, we pledged to be better caretakers of this magnificent planet. Upon the sun-soaked land, we kissed many tear-stained cheeks, promising to love more than we’d loved before and avoid the stickers in the grass and the pricks in the field. So many lessons! Today, Elissa is wrangling some of the women together for a workshop in Austin, Texas. I’ll be there in spirit. Here’s her site for more info.
