Unsurprisingly, even five days back from our Soul Dance Retreat in the Hill Country, and bookended on either side with luscious dances in Austin, Texas, I’m still not fully back in this surreal time/space continuum yet. Are you? Wherever you are?
A bazillion years ago, I had a date with an otherworldly man named Smoot. It was ‘round midnight on a Viernes, and as I arrived at his hillside home, I was met by a rolling wave of music spilling out of the slightly open front door. Before I could tap or ring a bell, Smoot’s hand reached out from the darkened house, and putting his finger to his lips, he gently guided me over the threshold and into the music. Then, ever so slowly, he backed up, and we wordlessly glided in the dark until we arrived at the most magical two-story window where the lights of our City of Angels sparkled up the inky canyon. I’d never seen this angle of downtown before, and it was hard not to gasp aloud at the beauty. But more, to drop small talk or any talk at all and simply slow dance with the light was one of the most extraordinary gifts my twenty-something self could ever have received.
He’d just arrived home after a crazy night managing The Stock Exchange, the hottest nightclub in LA, and I had only finished a rough day at work on the set playing an excruciatingly emotional character. We’d both been playing roles, but I didn’t yet have the tools to release my ache. Yet without backstory or words to make it “all better,” in a house of glass, light, music, and movement, he had just the right medicine. We danced. No words. Just music and the glow of the City of Angels.
To this day, just dancing in the Source light of what is, with the sensual music floating around or between us, still dissolves anything that isn’t for us to keep. Sometimes, we don’t have to have it all figured out. Sometimes our body and soul just need a break to be held in sweet, rare flow. Have you been dancing away any of your blues lately? Or dancing with an invitation to discover what’s next?
Sometimes we do give extra words to our experience. I’m still floating in the light of all the love we wove on the big ranch under the bigger sky. I’m also flushed with joy, having returned once again to Elissa’s class after our Dancing Hands and Soul Dance in Texas. Her transformative and restorative Body Vida class on Lunes AM in Austin is not to be missed! Some even stayed after class for the icing of going even deeper with those whose gifts are awakened or sparkling with curiosity. Dancing and integrating in this beautiful light, too, keeps me grateful for all the gifts our souls are stretching with. By the way, if you’d like to dance online with Elissa, too, I’d happily share her contact info with you.
Quick ANNOUNCEMENT: Unfortunately, we are not having our table read today. Andy & Me has been rescheduled for Junio 6. Thanks for rolling your tickets or purchasing through the links.
This week, beginning Miércoles, we have a three-evening Expanded Quanta Circle with an intimate, powerful group, 4/29– 7:00 PM PDT, 7:30-9 PM CDT, or 8:30 – 10 PM EDT. Please NOTE: while it is scheduled for the three-session arc M-W, I’d like to honor the Mayo Day General Strike that’s been called for Viernes, Mayo 1st, this week, and dance on Miércoles, Jueves, and again on Sábado instead of what the poster reflects. I’ll dance at the same time on Viernes, too, but since this strike is walking away from all tech for the day, I’d like to unplug and not turn on my computer or zoom again until Sábado. I know that some have already signed up for W-F, but if you would like to join me in supporting Source dancing 4 evenings, just Viernes without being on camera or connected via Zoom, you’d be warmly welcome.
Each session deepens in ways even those who have been dancing with me for years have noticed with greater peace, awe, and joy.
Again, how are you? I know the news has continued to be worrisome at best and horrifying at worst. And while I’d like to ride the golden bubble of peace, there is no spiritual bypassing here. Some of the news has been extremely triggering. And while some of the news has been far afield from what we did on retreat or afterward, as a survivor, now thriving, I also dance and talk to help others achieve their healthiest, most peaceful balance through dance and writing.
